About Us
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Athens, AL that provides children in our local schools with food for the weekend. We connect our schools with churches and individuals that purchase, pack, and fill food bags throughout the year.
Our sponsors provide around 500 bags per week to eight Athens City Schools and three Limestone County Schools. Together, we’re able to feed around 500 kids every weekend.
We are dedicated to ending childhood hunger by filling tummies and changing lives.
Our Story
The Full Tummy Project began in 2008 when two parents saw a problem in the community and wanted to do something about it. A growing number of students in Athens, AL were dependent on school-provided meals, but over weekends and school breaks those children had no access to nutritious foods.
Those two parents jumped into action and started making small bags of food for these students to have over the weekend. The need quickly outgrew the two-person operation and that’s when two churches stepped in to assist - Athens’ First Methodist Church and Friendship Church. It wasn’t long before the Full Tummy Project was an official non-profit organization.
Since that time, the Full Tummy Project has grown in Athens, Alabama, and Limestone County, Alabama to serve nearly 500 students a week. We are sponsored by over 13 churches in our area and many individuals.
